The distinct sounds of Bhangra music have been enjoyed and celebrated by Punjabis and South
Asians for centuries. In the past decade, Bhangra has taken the mainstream by storm and become
a popular genre of music at nightclubs across Europe and now North America. Artists like Jay-Z,
Craig David, Britney Spears, Madonna and Dr. Dre have all incorporated the pulsating beats of
Bhangra into their music.
Across North America, professional and collegiate Bhangra dance teams are competing and trad-
ing dance moves in the major cities like Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Washington DC, Boston,
Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Bhangra Masti is a unique arts festival that presents Bhangra at a series of interactive events in
Greater Toronto Area. Competitive dance teams,international musicians and local performers come
together during the annualcelebration. Events include the opening ceremony, major competitions,
guest singer, exhibits, and of course South Asian cuisine.
