The funding granted to us this year has allowed Punjabi dance Academy to expand its project’s scope by opening an official Punjabi dance Academy Studio. The Punjabi dance Academy Studio will be crucial for educating both youth and adults about the dances of giddha, bhangra and the musical aspects of Punjabi folklore: such as the instruments of the dhol and tumbi, and traditional singing also called boliyaan. The studio is designed to instruct enthusiastic dancers and musicians on how to perfect their performance techniques through interactive bhangra lessons with certified bhangra coaches. The studio will also provide education about the significance of bhangra dance moves in order to give students an understanding of the beauty that bhangra and giddha embodies.
The studio targets all ages including young children, adolescents, and adults interested in joining teams, or those already involved in teams. Also, the studio will offer recreational classes in bhangra, the dhol and other instruments for those who may not wish to compete, but are fascinated by the Punjabi culture. Other recreational classes will include bhangra aerobics and bollywood dancing.
The studio will represent its teams in competitions across the country, USA, and England and will aim to keep youth involved in the local community. Punjabi dance Academy also encourages and welcomes youth from other ethnic communities to join in spreading cultural awareness and tolerance. This community building aspect has been unique to Punjabi dance Academy. Past competitions have involved individuals from different nationalities, races and ethnic communities, displaying Punjabi dance Academy’s commitment to cultural diversity and unity. It is Punjabi dance Academy’s goal to carry these values on into the new Punjabi dance Academy Studio with great force and success
